The industry of agriculture is examined in this introductory course. Agriculture careers, production agriculture agri-business, horticulture, forestry, conservation, food science, mechanics, and agri-science are units of study. Students must have the basic agriculture class in order to be a member of FFA.
Basic Ag Mechanics / Grades 10-12 / Year Course / 1 Credit / 710 /RCRS# A205 184001A001
Basic Ag Mechanics is a one year course designed to help students develop mechanical skills in Agriculture. The course is divided into five sections which are: intro to mechanics, surveying, woods/construction, metalworking, and ag power and equipment.
Ag Science / Grades 10-12 / Year Course / 1 Credit / 720/RCRS# A203, 18003A001
The advance orientation level class includes units of study in the areas of crop science, soil science, livestock science, horticulture, metal and fabrication design, farm structures, and small engine technology.
Advanced Ag Mechanics / Grades 11-12 / Year Course / 1 Credit / 725 /RCRS# A31 18402A000
This course is designed to cover several areas not included in the Basic Agricultural Mechanics course. These areas include block and brick masonry, painting, plumbing, electric motors, large gasoline motors, diesel motors, hydraulics, and agricultural structures. This is a class which will combine classroom and laboratory work in fairly equal amounts. All students will be required to furnish their own shop clothes. This includes leather shoes, coveralls or pants, and a long-sleeved shirt. The pre-requisites for this course are Introduction to Agriculture and Basic Agricultural Mechanics, with a C average in the Basic Agricultural Mechanics course.
Ag Communications, Issues / Grades 11-12 / Sem Crs / ½ Credit / 730/ RCRS# A316 18203A002
This is a one year course designed to help students develop their analytical and communication skills. During the course students will analyze current agriculture issues and determine how they affect people on all sides of the issue. The students learn to enhance their written and oral communication skills by presenting their views and opinions to the class. Students learn how to arrange and present debates, speeches, and interviews to be effective leaders in today’s society.
Ag Business Operations / Grades 10-12 / Sem Course / ½ Credit / 750 / RCRS# A305 18401A000
This class will give particular attention to the design, operation, maintenance, repair and safety practices used on agricultural tools and power equipment. Major emphasis in this level mechanics course will be in the areas of electricity, surveying, concrete, farm structure, welding fabrication, carpentry skills, and soil and water structures.
Ag Business Management / Grades 10-12 / Sem Course / ½ Credit / 745 / RCRS# A407 18201A001
This course will give particular attention to the policies and principles that effect production agriculture and agri-business. Units include economics, marketing, computer applications, law, and government programs. Record keeping and analysis, taxes, insurance, credit, and sales are areas also covered in this management class.
Horticulture / Grades 11-12 / Semester Course / ½ Credit / 735 / RCRS# A207
The Horticulture course begins with an overview of career opportunities in the horticulture industry. The class continues with basic plant taxonomy, anatomy, physiology, and plant growth requirements. The bulk of the course will be laboratory time spent in the school orchard, learning orchard management and in the school greenhouse, learning greenhouse management. Floral design and floral arrangement will be taught when students create floral arrangements for seasonal events.
Landscape Management / Grade 12 / Semester Course / ½ Credit / 755 / RCRS# A410
Landscape Management is a class for seniors who have had Horticulture. Students start the course by learning basic principles of landscape design, construction and maintenance. There is a fall landscape project that the students will design, construct, and learn to maintain. During the winter students will work on an individual landscape project with a CAD program. The spring focus is on turf management, and general landscape care.
Biological Science Applications in Ag / Grade 12 / Year Course / 1 Credit / 760 / RCRS# A308
This course is designed to reinforce and extend students’ understanding of science by associating basic scientific principles and concepts with relevant applications in agriculture. Students will examine major phases of plant science and animal science and specific biological science concepts that govern management decisions. Pre-requisite of biology or ag science is required.
